Can Pac Div relight the flame?
It’s been five long years since Pac Div last released an album — 2012’s GMB — but the West Coast rap trio are finally making their comeback in 2017.
In a new interview with DJ Booth, Like announced that he, Mibbs and BeYoung are dropping a new album called First Baptist. The project features 10 “high energy” songs with contributions from DJ Dahi, Swiff D and Soulection’s esta. Alhough Like didn’t give a concrete release date, he did say the group are looking to put out the project this Spring.
“It’s done, it’s about to come out. We’re thinking Spring time. We got some heaters on there. We got myself on production, we got [DJ] Dahi, we got Swiff D, we had KAYTRANADA, but we’re gonna save that for another project, and we got esta. from Soulection. It’s called ‘First Baptist.’ It’s 10 cuts on there and we’re gonna give away a song, too. Man, we’re excited. There’s a lot of high energy songs. It’s like we never left.”
In the five years since GMB, Like has branched out as a DJ, producer and solo artist, producing for the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Anderson .Paak and Joey Bada$$ while releasing his debut album Songs Made While High last year. Mibbs has also dropped a string of solo and collaborative projects (with Scoop DeVille). BeYoung, meanwhile, has focused on taking care of his family.
Pac Div briefly reunited for “Sun Down” and “Roll the Dice” in the summer of 2015, but with a second new album in the works (featuring production from KAYTRANADA), it sounds like the boys are back for good this time.
